The Capacity Map

How the ten work together

The ten are not ten separate self-improvement projects. They interact, and scarcity in one can quietly narrow the rest.

Six capacities help support participation: Physical Capacity, Habits, Skills, Confidence, Courage, and Stability. Four domains are places where that participation becomes a life: Work That Matters, Love, Relationships, and Community.

None operates alone. Physical Capacity can keep a body ready for a life that has gone socially thin. Confidence without judgment can become overreach. Habits can keep something important alive, but they can also preserve behaviors whose purpose has expired. Work that matters can still consume Love, Stability, and room to breathe when its demands stop fitting the whole. Stability can support meaningful risk, but without Adaptability it can harden into rigidity. Community can create belonging while still requiring enough Space for independent judgment.

The goal is not to maximize all ten or make the wheel perfectly even. It is to understand what the life you want to keep participating in requires now, notice where something is limiting that participation, and respond proportionately.

Sometimes that means building more capacity. Sometimes it means using what you already have differently. Sometimes it means doing less, creating space, asking for help, changing the environment, allowing an important yes to take another form, or letting something go.

Greater capacity creates more choice. It does not create an obligation to carry more.
